JamFactory By Khai Liew

Khai Liew’s new design for the JamFactory retail store creates a small slice of Paris in the streets of Adelaide.

Drawing inspiration from the avenue of trees in the Jardin du Palais, Paris, the JamFactory retail store in Adelaide, Australia attempts to gives visitors the feeling of strolling down a promenade. Khai Liew’s new design studies the relationship between different components to create a play of light across the composed forms. Shelving displays – an abstract ‘avenue of trees’ – fill the space, each shelf representing a branch.

The linear nature of the shelving units direct viewers through the space, creating a clear path to the adjoining galleries. Raised from the ground to maintain a sense of spaciousness, the units are finished in a series of neutral tones, creating a cool and calm environment. Light-grained American and European timbers sourced from sustainable plantations, along with glass detailing by Australian glass artist Jessica Loughlin, complete the picture.
