The Battle Has Been Won Against The Traffic

Luzinterruptus has continued their creation of provocative, topical installations with their recent work The Battle Has Been Won Against The Traffic in Brooklyn, New York.

After their initial plan – to set up 2,000 books in a main avenue in Manhattan – was thwarted by funding and licensing issues, Luzinterruptus managed to make literature win the battle against New York traffic on a slightly smaller scale. On an early morning in February, they set up 800 books and their corresponding lights under Brooklyn Bridge in Water Street, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Another in their series of ‘guerilla light installations’ (see here for more), they followed their favoured process of grabbing a team of friends to get on board to help make it all happen. The installation, which took two days to set up off-site, is the first step in what they hope will be a successful battle against traffic in the city.
